New Procedure
DEAR PATIENTS!
There is a new technique being offered in our office starting in September! If you have had problems with frequency, urgency, leaking with urgency or poor bladder emptying, we will be offering a peripheral nerve evaluation in our office.
There are two main causes of these symptoms:
What will happen during the peripheral nerve evaluation?
Two tiny test wires will be placed underneath your skin near your tailbone. No incisions are necessary to place the wires. Your peripheral nerve evaluation will provide valuable data on your bladder dysfunction, so that we may make the best recommendations for treatment. If the test is successful, then you will experience a significant improvement in your current bladder symptoms, and we will know that there is a nerve component to your symptoms.
How long would this test take?
You should plan to be in the office about 1 to 1.5 hours. The test itself should take less than 30 minutes.
What happens if the test does not work?
The office procedure has had about a 70% success rate.
What happens if I have a successful test?
If you see a 50% or greater improvement in your symptoms, your test is successful. You would then return to the office and we would remove the wires. This part is painless and takes about 1 minute. You would then, at that time, be informed of your next step.
OUR OFFICE IS VERY HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE! WE HAVE MANY, MANY PATIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN UNHAPPY WITH PRIOR TREATMENTS. CURRENTLY, THIS PERIPHERAL NERVE EVALUATION IS BEING PAID FOR BY MEDICARE AND MOST INSURANCE CARRIERS.
Please contact our office for an appointment if you are interested.
Respectfully,
Martha B. Boone, M.D.
THERE IS A NEW DRUG FOR OVERACTIVE BLADDER!
Toviaz (fesoterodine fumarate)
Toviaz (fesoterodine fumarate) works by relaxing the smooth muscle tissue of the bladder, thus reducing the urinary frequency, urge to urinate, and sudden urinary incontinence (leakage of urine), that are characteristic symptoms of OAB.
If you have had failure with a previous OAB drug, or have had side effects, please see us to see if Toviaz would work for you!
